The silk I'm painting on

The fabric on which I paint to create luxurious accessories that you love primarily consists of two types, and I will now give you a general overview of them.

It's a pleasure to paint on natural silk!

The first and beloved type of silk is called Pongee. Pongee silk is 100% natural, high-quality, and luxurious silk known for its exceptional finesse, lightweight, transparency, softness, and subtle luster. It is entirely natural silk, which is most commonly used for creating luxurious accessories such as elegant scarves, sheer summer blouses, and ethereal garments.

The Pongee silk I paint on originates from China. The silk I use has a weight of 6 momme.

Pongee silk is quite transparent, especially when painted in lighter tones, and it has a beautiful drape and a delicate silk shine. It is a wonderful breathable fabric for fashioning silk ethereal blouses, tunics, and dresses. It is very fine and exceptionally soft natural silk that caresses the body and the senses.

Features:

- Soft noble sheen

- Does not shrink and has slight elasticity

- Extremely delicate fabric

- More transparent compared to Habotai silk

- Shimmers in the sunlight and reflects light

- Smooth surface with a pleasant and gentle luster, wrinkles easily

- Drapes on smooth folds, hangs freely and ethereally

- Can be shaped with seams, but not suitable for gathered and structured draped garments that need to maintain their shape

- Excellent thermoregulation

- Cool, yet provides warmth when needed

- Not slippery like synthetic fibers

- Good moisture absorption

- Hypoallergenic fabric, meaning 100% natural silk does not cause allergic reactions and is gentle and completely safe for your skin

- One of the strongest natural fibers.

The Habotai silk I paint on also comes from China. The silk I use has a weight of 8 momme.

Habotai silk is 100% natural, high-quality silk known for its finesse, lightweight, softness, and shine. It is entirely natural silk that fashion designers use to create summer blouses, pareos, lightweight lingerie, summer dresses, and denser scarves. Habotai silk is an excellent choice for sewing evening gowns, multi-layered dresses, silhouette blouses with delicate gathers, and stylish depth. Techniques such as gathering and pleating, for example, help achieve the best result in creating volume and texture in dresses.

Natural Habotai silk possesses beautiful flexibility and transparency. It is known for its lightness, ethereal quality, and delicate feel when worn. People compare this silk to chiffon, but there is still a difference in the sensation when it touches the body.

Features:

Soft noble sheen

Does not shrink, not elastic

Very fine (for summer dresses, blouses, and scarves, the silk with 8 momme threads is most suitable)

- Moderately transparent but not as much as chiffon or Pongee silk

- Shimmers in the sunlight and reflects light

- Smooth and wrinkles easily, relatively static fabric, hangs freely and ethereally

Hanging or draped garments and accessories stand freely and gracefully

- Excellent thermoregulation

- Cool, yet provides warmth when needed

- Not slippery like synthetic fibers

- Good moisture absorption

- Hypoallergenic fabric, meaning 100% natural silk does not cause allergic reactions and is gentle and completely safe for your skin

- One of the strongest natural fibers.

If we compare the natural Pongee silk to the natural Habotai silk:

Habotai is slightly less transparent, and the threads are slightly denser. It is not as elastic and has a tighter structure compared to Pongee, although it is also exceptionally delicate and pleasant to the touch. It wrinkles easily, just like Pongee. I love both types of silk. However, I can share that large scarves have a more beautiful drape that flows gracefully when made from Pongee. It's a matter of personal preference. Some ladies prefer a fuller silk like Habotai :)
