Silk that connects art technology and women’s empowerment in a purpose driven future

A woman creating art on natural silk – a symbol of the connection between technology, art, and women’s empowerment

I am an artist working with natural silk, but also a contemporary creator who uses the power of technology. Art is an experience — especially when shaped by a woman's hands. In a world driven by artificial intelligence, I choose to create with soul and signature – on natural silk, where every brushstroke carries emotion and every thread tells a story.

I recently completed a Master’s degree in “European Projects” at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, where I explored how the Erasmus+ Programme (2021–2027) contributes to the digital empowerment and social inclusion of women. The main focus was on how practical tools, training, and initiatives can overcome the barriers women face in digital transformation.

What did the results show?

I conducted an online survey among 27 women of various ages, regions, and social backgrounds. The findings:

- Many of them have limited access to digital resources;

- There is a prevailing low self-assessment of digital skills;

- There is a lack of information about European programmes;

- Nevertheless, over 85% expressed motivation to learn, if the training is accessible, practical, and supportive.

Artificial Intelligence – the new reality

The world is changing at a pace that often exceeds our ability to adapt. Artificial intelligence is no longer the future – it is the present. From healthcare to education, from design to agriculture – AI is transforming how humanity exists, creates, and communicates.

For women, this brings new opportunities – but also new challenges. Can we be part of this world of algorithms and automation? Will we be able to preserve humanity, softness, emotional intelligence – and at the same time, learn to work with technologies that operate continuously and make decisions with extraordinary precision?

My recommendations:

- Education for women in the field of technology must start early and continue throughout life;

- Art and creativity must be integrated into innovation and research programmes;

- Women must be encouraged not only to create aesthetics, but also algorithms – to be present in programming, analysis, and the ethical standards of AI;

- Every policy related to digitalization must consider gender as a key factor – respecting the biological and social role of women.

I believe that creativity and art are not isolated from the future – on the contrary. They can be its compass. In handcrafted work, in using natural materials, in caring for health and nature – there is power that cannot be digitalized. But it can be protected, narrated, and enhanced through technology.

Humanity is heading toward a world of high technology and low emotional risk.

That is why we need more women at the core of digital transformation – not only as users, but as creators of ethical, human-centered, and sustainable solutions.

Silk – a bridge between sustainability and identity

4newme.com is a space for art and style – from hand-painted scarves and fichus made of natural silk to unique clothing and interior art. Each creation carries aesthetics, inspiration, and a sense of individuality. I use high-quality paints and 100% natural silk – a foundation upon which I build my art. These principles are reflected clearly in several key aspects:

- Identity – each scarf, garment, or painting tells a story;

- Health and aesthetics – silk is a natural material with hypoallergenic properties, making it extremely suitable for people with sensitive skin or allergies. It does not trap dust or bacteria, allows the skin to breathe, and naturally regulates temperature – cooling in summer and warming in winter. In addition, its smooth structure minimizes friction, making it ideal for delicate areas of the body. Aesthetically, silk has a natural sheen and softness that bring a sense of luxury, elegance, and self-care. These qualities make it not only suitable for clothing, but also for interior solutions – silk paintings and textile elements contribute to a harmonious, healthy, and elegant environment at home or in workspaces.

For me, silk is a creative act, a sustainable choice, and feminine power – both tradition and a vision for the future.

European context

Sustainable fashion and the use of eco-friendly materials like natural silk are viewed as key elements in the EU’s transition to a greener economy. Silk is biodegradable, does not require intensive chemical processing, and is long-lasting – making it a viable alternative to synthetic fabrics with high environmental impact. In this sense, working with natural materials is not only an aesthetic, but also an environmentally responsible choice.

The topic of sustainability and inclusion is also linked to other key challenges in Europe – digitalization and inequalities in access to new technologies, especially among women. This is where European policies and programmes come in.

According to the European Commission:

- Less than 36% of people in Bulgaria have basic digital skills;

- Only 19% of IT specialists in the EU are women;

- Women over 45 are the most vulnerable to digital exclusion.

The EU encourages women’s participation through initiatives I examined in my thesis, explored in my thesis such as:

- Digital Education Action Plan;

- Women4IT – training and employment of young women in digital professions;

- DEW – Digital Empowerment of Women – a platform for learning and exchange.

The power of the silk thread – what’s next?

I don’t see the future as a threat. On the contrary. I believe that the combination of creativity, knowledge, and technology can positively transform the lives of many women. In every scarf, fichu, garment, or painting, I weave this very idea – to inspire and promote creation with purpose – because I believe that art has the power to transform, to inspire, and to connect people with values such as sustainability, female solidarity, and care for nature.

My message:

Art is a way to express yourself.
Technology is a way to reach the world.
And silk – is the material where nature, creativity, and the future intertwine.
